The Piano Cottage Student Band program is for veteran students looking to write, record, produce, and gig with their own original music. Student Bands have had great success, including performances on WoodTV and playing at venues such as the DeVos Performance Hall and Fredrick Meijer Gardens along with recitals, coffee shops, and The Piano Cottage Rocks. If you or a student are interested in joining a band, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Band members must take private lessons in order to qualify for a student band.
The primary goal of Student Bands is to provide a safe, positive environment where musicians can come together to learn to play and communicate as a band. They will get writing and compositional experience they can take to the studio or gig out.
Bands will meet for either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly practices depending on the band and their assigned Instructor. Only one band meets at a time.
Practices can be held in a multitude of places. They are commonly held at the Boston St. location but have also taken place in student or teacher homes, churches, and venues. Locations will be discussed between the band members, their families, and the staff of the Piano Cottage.
The main purpose of a Student Band is to provide performance opportunities. These often start with recital performances and coffee shop gigs and expand into larger venues. Performances depend on how much material the band has prepared, the band's confidence levels, availability of performances, and parent/guardian approval.
