THE COTTAGE CHORUS
Kids Creating Harmony
The Girls Cottage Chorus is now accepting new singers, both boys and girls ages 8-13.
Since 2014, the Cottage Chorus has been directed by Mrs. Mary Skuza, a popular voice & piano instructor for The Piano Cottage studios.
What is the Cottage Chorus?
We are a co-ed chorus of young singers ages 8-13 that get together to rehearse as we learn to sing on Friday afternoons. Chorus members are introduced to solid vocal techniques, inspiring contemporary and classical choral repertoire and stage/performance skills.
The focus of this beginning girls’ chorus is to help each individual develop her own natural singing voice within a community of fellow singers. Weekly rehearsals will incorporate singing games, movement, unison singing, rounds and two part harmonies, a variety of age-appropriate and fun repertoire geared to building each girl’s confidence and enjoyment of singing.r support and understanding. -The Piano Cottage Staff. ]
Rehearsals are Friday afternoons from 4:15pm-5:15pm in the Beacon Hill Community Room. (Go in the front main circle-turn around entrance to Beacon Hill Retirement Community on Boston Street SE Grand Rapids) .Consistent attendance is encouraged but we understand there may be Fridays where your family has conflicts and you are unable to attend. Refunds, however, are not given for missed rehearsals as teachers are still present, prepared and teaching.
Rehearsals are at Beacon Hill Retirement complex, located 1919 Boston SE, across from our teaching studios at 2010 Boston SE. Normally they are in the “Community Room” - go in the front door turn around and take a right. Occasionally we are moved to the ‘Community House Auditorium” -behind the complex and down the hill.
The Cottage Chorus is a performance-oriented group. Participants gain valuable skills learning to perform in front of live audiences. They made their stunning debut in 2014 at the SpeakEZ Restaurant when they performed an afternoon of music & great food for a sold-out house called : "A Little Rock, A Little Roll." They also performed for sold out concerts at The Frederick Meijer Gardens in 2014 and 2015 and The Piano Cottage Rocks concert series at Wealthy Street Theatre in 2014-2017. They have learned audition skills, choreography & developed great friendships and confidence through their love of singing! We welcome you to visit a rehearsal and consider joining as well.
