Updates & Information

The Piano Cottage Rocks Auditions, Rehearsals & Concerts

Greetings friends!

For the past 8 years, The Piano Cottage has celebrated our most motivated young musicians each July with a exciting rock concert series called The Piano Cottage Rocks.  This year though, the world faces an unprecedented global health crisis, and while steadfast in continuing audition and concert preparations behind the scenes; we face much uncertainty as to whether we can safely offer this event for our students and staff.

Please be advised that a final decision regarding the concert series opportunity will be posted on or before June 1, 2020.   In the meantime though, our teachers will continue to assist and  encourage the many students who are working toward the goal of preparing audition material.   Video auditions will be accepted from April 1 through May 1st, with  the cast being announced by May 3rd.  Thereafter, we will await guidance from the state and other health authorities as to whether rehearsals may begin safely.  Thank you for sharing this information with your student.

Additionally,  based on feedback from TPCR parents and students, we will be implementing a few exciting new changes to TPCR9! While the concert series has been an amazing musical, social and performance opportunity for students and has remained relatively unchanged until this year, we hope these changes will make the rehearsal and concert experience even more educational, challenging and growth filled for students of all ages and levels of musical development.

Feel free to reach out with any questions or comments, we are here to help and give hope during this difficult time.

Sincerely yours,

The Piano Cottage Rocks, Production Team

3/16/20  - AUDITIONS BY VIDEO SUBMISSIONS ONLY THIS YEAR

All auditions will be held via electronic video submission this year!

Any Piano Cottage student who will be between Grades 3-12 on June 15, 2020 may submit an audition video audition for consideration.  Students may submit as many audition videos as they wish; however there is a $5.00 fee per video.

Deadline for Video Submissions:  Videos may be submitted between April 1 and May 1, 2020. Please review the detailed TPCR9 Video Audition Rules & Regulations here.  All video submission instructions and deadlines are detailed in the TPCR Audition Document linked to the right.

3/20/20 JULY REHEARSALS TO BE DIVIDED BY AGE GROUP

(Tentative summer rehearsal schedule - subject to change pending Covid 19 determinations:)

July 13-17, 2020:  Week 1/Rehearsals for Act I (Younger students) only

The Piano Cottage Rocks rehearsal schedule is being set based on performers' ages and grades.  Act I of TPCR will feature only students in Grades 3-6 in addition to the Chorus.  Only Act 1 will be rehearsing this 1st week from July 13-17.  Students in Grades 3-7 (as of June 15, 2020) your presence will be necessary at rehearsals this week. Rehearsal venue and times are pending but will likely be late afternoon 3 hour rehearsals.

July 20-24, 2020:  Week 2 / Rehearsals for Act II (Older students) only

Act II will feature performers Grades 7-12 only. Students in grades 7-12 only (as of June 15, 2020) will be attending rehearsals July 20-24 in addition to production week July 27-29.

We recognize that many high school students have part-time jobs and this change was intended to decrease and condense the high school students' daily time commitment required for rehearsals in July. We will be focusing their rehearsals as such into one week of more intense instruction and challenge for their age group. Rehearsal venue and times are pending but will likely be late afternoon 3 hour rehearsals.

July 27-29, 2020:  Full show run-through rehearsals for entire cast

During the 3rd week of rehearsals, or "production week", the two acts will come together and rehearse the entire show during dress rehearsals. Older students will be helping mentor and prepare younger students making their TPCR debut and will also be taking on responsibilities with sound and lighting design and engineering this year.     Rehearsal venue and time is TBA by June 1.

July 30 and 31 2020:  Show Time! 7:30 PM

Location: Wealthy Theater, Grand Rapids
