The Piano Cottage Rocks Cast Newsletter
For the week of July 8-12, 2019
HERE WE GO!
60 STUDENTS with 12 rehearsals on 16 DAYS TO PUT ON A WORLD CLASS PRODUCTION.
CAN THEY DO IT?
Oh you betcha. Bring it on.
WELCOME LETTER FROM MR. & MRS. MCCARGAR
On behalf of the Piano Cottage Rocks Production Team, we are thrilled to begin rehearsals this week. Countless hours have gone in to preparing for this month and to finally hear and see the students in person as we begin this journey is rewarding.
Our family has been sad and discouraged watching politics the past few years. We realized there are many people in our world who do not understand what collaboration and cooperation truly means and requires of us each. As such, we feel the mission of music educators today is more crucial than ever. Our cast of young musicians will soon put away any "I/Me focus" and begin a rehearsal process ahead that will make them experts in listening, collaborating, and making decisions for the good of a greater group. This can be a frustrating, growth filled and the joyous all in the same experience. It is our hope that after this intense musical experience that they will view their abilities in a different light and will be changed for the better; and ultimately that they will go out and show the world how to be great human beings through their music.
To the many first time/brand new cast members this year: we welcome each and every one of you! During this 1st week (July 8-12) you will be participating in what are called "music rehearsals" that will require patience. There may be a lot of starting and stopping as musicians you've never met will arrive with a part they are playing you have never heard. You may not understand "how it fits" with you part and your vision for the song. Listen closely and remember it is not a performance. It is a rehearsal. Ask questions and rest assured no one is expected to arrive this week "performing"; it will take several rehearsals of each song to develop fluidity and musicality as a band/team. Leave perfectionism as the door, and arrive with an eagerness to give your personal best for a few hours, to listen and learn from our castmates and most importantly, have a ridiculous amount of fun with your music and soon to be new friends.
Let's go make beautiful music together! - Mr. & Mrs. McCargar and the teachers of The Piano Cottage
Rehearsals begin Monday July 8th! Visit the Rehearsal Page here for more details. We have 11 rehearsals plus one that was just added for July 12th. In this short period of time we will together create a show worthy of great celebration. The 1st week are "Come & Go" music rehearsals. 2nd week begins 3-hour rehearsals with Choreography and additional training as we start to run Act I, Act II and then the whole show. Students are expected to stay for the whole rehearsal starting July 15th on.
Parents who wish to get more involved in rehearsals and supporting your young musician and cast, please Click on the Sign Up Genius for dozens of ways we need help this month! We look forward to working with you this month!

Sophia Cioffi Epp
PLEASE NOTE: CLOSED REHEARSALS
Parents are invited to the final run of TPCR8 at Beacon Hill Auditorium on the morning of July 23 from 9-12 if you would enjoy a sneak peak of their progress before we move to Wealthy Theater. Outside of the 23rd, rehearsals are closed intentionally meaning cast members and staff only; to allow for the most productive working environment possible in light of the large number of cast members already on site at each rehearsal. Should you have questions while dropping off your student, please shoot us an email at before or after rehearsal. Please avoid interrupting peformers or teachers on stage working with the cast unless it is an emergency. Parents that would like to be more involved at rehearsals have the opportunity to do so by signing up on the community Sign Up Genius. At least 2 Parent helpers are needed at every single rehearsal and we welcome your involvement.

Well the Flermoen family gets exactly that this Wednesday July 10th!
No, they did not win the "Lakeside ROAR Auction"...They did however generously agree to open their home to allow us the rehearsal that has been pending Beacon Hill to occur. Address: 3021 Beechwood Drive on the NW corner of Beechwood and Woodcliff Drive.
Drop off procedure on July 10: When delivering your student, please do not park in the driveway but park on either street Beechwood or Woodcliff and have your student come in the front door without ringing door bell. WHAT IS CONCERT/PERFORMANCE ATTIRE for TPCR8?
For the concerts on July 25 and 26, students should wear a TPCR8 Shirt, Black shorts, skirts, pants, black shoes, PLEASE for safety purposes, no open toed shoes or sandals. Students may "Pinterest" their shirts to customize them to suit their own style and may add hats and flare as they desire!
Headshots will be taken by pro photographer Mrs. Katherine Tippett of Tippett Photography on July 8 and 11. Students do not need to do anything to prepare. When they arrive at rehearsals they check in and get their photo taken before or after they are busy on stage. Solid dark color shirts look best in head shots which are taken from the chest up. They may be utilized for social media purposes or kept on file for PR purposes. Students absent or missing both of those days may send us a black and white photo from the chest up or a favorite photo of themselves and we will crop and convert to B&W.
UPDATES - CHECK THE CAST INFO PAGE OF THE WEBSITE
We will be posting updates, information and Rehearsal Notes on the Cast Info page from here on out and sending few and fewer emails as we get into music rehearsals and time is needed there.
WHAT TO BRING TO REHEARSAL?
Water bottle, your music, a pencil. Students may also bring a pillow, quiet activity, books, etc on days where you will not be on stage a lot. No food (unless you step outside to eat as Beacon Hill does not allow food on the premises) Drummers: bring your sticks and mallets. Any student with a snare drum a t home please bring it. We need Snares and snare stands. We are also looking for 2-3 cowbells. Students may bring cell phones but they should not be on stage during rehearsal times.
and REMEMBER again..."a great musician always has a pencil."
We look forward to working with your students this week!
