Max Gage Awarded Scholarship to Michigan State University to Study Jazz
Congratulations to 2020 Northview High School graduate, Max Gage! Max started piano lessons at The Piano Cottage his freshman year with Mr. Wright McCargar, when he was awarded a scholarship through The Crescendo Foundation. As he gained confidence playing the piano, Max joined the jazz band at Northview High School, sparking his journey into jazz. Within a two-year span, Max won the Jamy Aebersold Best Soloist Award, and the Northview Band was chosen to play at the Savannah Jazz Festival in Georgia, an honor set aside for just ten high school bands in the nation. Max also earned a spot in the District X All Star Jazz band, the St. Cecilia Jazz Band, and the Blue Lake Vanguard Band, where he was featured in their faculty jazz performance.
This year, Max was selected to join the All State Jazz Band, where the State’s top high school performers attend seminars and perform at the Michigan Music Conference.
Max credits the music education he gained at The Piano Cottage as a key factor in choosing to study music in college. Max was awarded a full tuition scholarship to study Jazz at Michigan State University, where he will start in the fall. Max noted that MSU is ranked as one of the top three jazz programs in the nation. Max was also offered a music scholarship to Western Michigan University.
Max would like to thank the entire Piano Cottage community, especially the McCargar family and Ms. Jean Gardner for their support and encouragement.
